Taking bets means taking risk. A good back office makes that risk visible and lets the team act on it quickly.
See your exposure
Traders need a live view of how much the operator stands to win or lose on each market and outcome, and across a whole event. Update it as bets arrive, and let people drill from a total down to individual bets.
Limits that can be changed quickly
Set maximum stakes and payouts by sport, market type and player group, and allow fast changes. Limits should apply at bet acceptance, not only in reports.
Know your players
Different customers carry different risk. Segment players by behaviour and history, and apply different limits or review rules to each group. Flag sudden changes: a new account staking heavily, or a player who consistently beats closing prices.
Automate the first response
Rules can suspend a market, reduce a limit or hold a bet for review when a condition is met, for example exposure beyond a threshold. Automation handles the first seconds; humans decide what to do next.
Alerts that people can act on
Too many alerts get ignored. Send a small number of clear ones, with the market, the cause and a link to the relevant screen. Track which alerts led to action and prune the rest.
Watch for fraud and abuse
Look for patterns such as linked accounts, bonus abuse and suspicious payment activity. Share signals between the risk and payments teams.
Keep every decision auditable
Log each limit change, manual override and review outcome with who, when and why. This protects the business and helps you improve the rules later.
Test the rules
Replay historic bets and scenarios through new rules before they go live, and keep a safe way to roll a rule back.
The right controls depend on your product, volumes and regulator.
